About Betty's ListBetty's List is an e-mail and online information service of Sullivan Communications, Inc., a full-service, lesbian-owned business based in San Francisco and located in The Castro neighborhood. Those wishing to subscribe or unsubscribe may do so at any time using the web site: http://www.bettyslist.com Betty's List makes it easy to find out about important events, services and products for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) community of the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Our messages have provided highly valued news and information to thousands of our list subscribers. The Betty's List e-mail service was originally created in 1996 by Dr. Betty L. Sullivan as a means to announce activities and events to her personal contacts. As she became increasingly involved in the Bay Area’s LGBT community, Betty’s list evolved. Many who Betty met in a variety of contexts over the years requested information and to be added to the "Big List" maintained by Betty’s company, Sullivan Communications, Inc. How Betty’s List Began - Community friends and colleagues finally convinced Betty to change the name of the list and the service it provided to "Betty’s List." By 2005, Betty's List had become a primary vehicle for promotion of events and announcements of services offered by professionals and their businesses. In January, 2003 the Betty’s List web site, www.bettyslist.com, was introduced. The number of visitors to the site has continued to grow exponentially as new features and content are added. The Betty’s List LGBT Community Business Directory was created with the original listings entered as a means to thank individuals and businesses that had provided support for Betty’s Birthday Party Benefiting the Lesbian Health Research Center @ UCSF held in 2003. Services offered by Betty’s List have been selected by non-profit organizations, community groups, small businesses and individuals to help spread the word about educational, social, philanthropic events as well as services and products. Who Are the Subscribers? Betty’s List includes more than 8000 subscribers to the original "Big List," with a reach of 10,000-15,000 contacts per message. Additional specialized lists are also maintained, such as the Ladies Night List sponsored by MECCA, a popular San Francisco restaurant / bar. Additionally, Betty’s List provides the service of maintaining the e-mail list of a client. Betty’s List may also distribute announcements, e-newsletter and other messages as requested by a client. Specialized lists are maintained separately, however, and the lists are never merged or co-mingled. List subscribers include gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender contacts, as well as their non-gay family members, friends and colleagues. Business owners, civic leaders, media contacts and community activists also rely on Betty's List for information about the LGBT market and the news and events of interest to their customers, readers and viewers. Subscribers to Betty's list are located in San Francisco and the surrounding counties of the East Bay (Alameda, Contra Costa), North Bay (Marin, Napa, Sonoma) and South Bay (San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz).
