Openly gay New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, boycotted
Manhattan's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, Friday, March 17th,
after
the parade chair, John Dunleavy, announced that the ban on gay groups
marching would continue. The ban dates back to 1991 when the
Irish Lesbian & Gay Organization first requested permission to
march. Quinn was elected Speaker of the New York City Council in
Janaury, 2006. She represents the NYC's District 3, which includes
includes Greenich Village, Chelsea, Clinton/Hell's Kitchen and parts of Murray Hill
